SEAI Energy Grants — explained simply

SEAI offers several routes for improving home energy performance: individual upgrades, complete home upgrades through a One Stop Shop, and fully funded measures for certain eligible homeowners.

Popular supports for home energy upgrades

These are headline maximums. Eligibility and final grant amounts depend on your property, the work selected, previous grant history and SEAI rules.

Attic Insulation

Up to €2,500

Fixed grant values depend on dwelling type. Enhanced attic support can apply to qualifying first-time buyers and certain welfare recipients.

Wall Insulation

Up to €8,000

Supports include cavity, internal dry-lining and external wall insulation, with values varying by property type.

Windows & Doors

Up to €4,000 + doors

Window grants vary by dwelling type. External doors are supported at €800 per door, up to two doors.

Heat Pump System

Up to €12,500

The current heat-pump bundle can include the system grant, eligible heating-distribution works and a renewable heat bonus.

Solar PV

Up to €1,800

Domestic solar PV support is calculated by installed kWp and is capped at €1,800 in 2026.

Solar Water Heating

€1,200

A fixed grant supports eligible solar thermal systems used to provide domestic hot water.

Heating Controls

€700

A fixed-value grant supports smart heating controls for eligible homes with existing heating systems.

BER

Post-works BER

€50

Certain SEAI Individual Energy Upgrade applications require a post-works BER before grant payment.

Home Energy Upgrade Loan

Government-backed low-cost finance is available for qualifying SEAI grant-aided upgrade works. SEAI lists loans from €5,000 to €75,000, with terms up to 10 years; rates vary by participating provider.

Understand your home with a BER

A BER gives a recognised assessment of your home’s energy performance and its Advisory Report can help identify upgrade priorities. A post-works BER is also required for Individual Energy Upgrade grant drawdown in applicable cases.
